Your Host & Proprietress

Smiling elderly woman in orange dress sitting on floral vintage sofa.

35 Years of Heart and Heritage.

Patricia Devine - or Pat, as she’s known to the decades of travellers she now calls friends - doesn't just run a Bed & Breakfast.

She curates an experience.

A retired teacher with a historian’s soul, Pat opened the doors of Island View in 1991. Since then, she has spent over 35 years transforming her heritage home into a living museum.

To stay here is to be surrounded by stories - from her curated collection of 1800s antiques and dolls to the family lore that lines the walls of the common areas.

"Patricia truly owns her last name... her hospitality and generosity are nothing short of Devine." - Chantal, Guelph, ON

While Pat’s heart is in history, her eyes are on the future.

Guests will find local art reflected in every suite, featuring works by iconic Newfoundland artists like Reilly Fitzgerald, Alicia Barrett, and Chelsey Lawrence.

It is the blend of 19th-century charm and 21st-century artistry that makes Island View a one-of-a-kind Newfoundland sanctuary.

"Comfortable and comes with a witty and informative hostess. Patricia is an easy, interesting person to talk to - a wealth of knowledge about Newfoundland." - Bernard B. & Sharon G.

Pat’s background in education makes her an unofficial ambassador for the Clarenville region. A stay here often comes with a "lesson plan" for the day - whether it’s the exact time to find the puffins in Bonavista or the secret spot for the best partridgeberry picking.

Pat isn't just your host; she is a baker of legends and a keeper of the nearly lost art of the Newfoundland kitchen-table conversation.

"Patricia is a wealth of knowledge about Newfoundland.

We would highly recommend this place for your trip."

- Bea and Brian, Carleton Place, ON

"Warm & gracious hostess, her home was like a museum with historical pieces & notes... A history lesson was a bonus!"

- Steve & Terri

"The tour of the museum room and other collectibles was interesting and fun with our host, Pat, sharing plenty of family lore and local history." - Kelly and Celia, Edmonton, AB

"Pat is a great source of tourist info... she is an information share extraordinaire." - Jackie & Peter

"Pat treated us like long-lost friends. She is the kindest, most thoughtful host who ensures everyone is comfortable and cared for." - Barbara L.

"Pat's sticky buns are almost as sweet as Pat."

"She attends to your needs as if you were family."

- Rose Le Calvez, Regina, SK
